Slime Care
CARING FOR YOUR SLIME
● Wash your hands before touching your slime to reduce the bacteria caught in your slime.
● Always keep your slime in an airtight container when you're not playing with it to prevent it from drying out.
● Reactivate it frequently! It's difficult to activate slime that has completely melted.
● Store in a cool place that's out of the sun.
TIPS & TRICKS
● Make activator and have it ready before attempting to touch slime.
● Always wash and dry your hands before (and after) handling slime.
Slime tends to leave a residue on dirty hands.
● If your hands are very dry, apply a thin layer of lotion and let it soak in.
● When first touching your slime, poke it in the container to make sure it isn’t too sticky.
If it is, follow instructions under the “Slime Fixes” section.
● Handle slime quickly (in a hot potato-like fashion) so that it does not stick to your hands.
● Play with slime over a clean, non-porous surface— such as a plate or countertop.
● Keep away from clothing, carpet, and furniture.
If you do need to get slime off/out of something, use a watered down vinegar solution.
HOW TO MAKE & USE ACTIVATOR
1. Add 1 teaspoon of borax powder to 1 cup of hot (but not boiling!) water and mix until all of the borax has dissolved. (The little baggie of borax you received with your slime(s) contains 1 teaspoon of borax powder)
2. Now you have an activator solution! Let cool and store in a clean empty container or spray bottle for future use.
3. If your slime feels sticky, add a little bit of activator— a couple drops at a time. Knead into slime until desired texture, consistency, or activation level is reached.
4. It may take a few minutes for the activator to fully absorb into the slime, so keep kneading, be patient, and add the activator slowly!
● Adding too much activator --> hard, rubbery slime
● Not adding enough activator --> slime will remain sticky
SLIME FIXES
● Too stiff/hard? --> If the temperature in the room is on the colder side, your slime may be a little stiff. Try slowly warming up the slime with your hands. If it is still hard, you can:
o Let it naturally melt by putting the slime near a warm window for a few days.
o If you want to play immediately:
● Add a small amount of glycerin (preferred) or lotion and knead.
● Add a small amount of warm water to slime and knead.
● Add more white based glue and knead.
● Add a small amount of glycerin (preferred) or warm water and knead.
● Add more clear glue and knead.
● Too sticky? --> add a few drops of activator solution and knead into slime.
● Still sticky after adding activator? --> Not all slimes are meant to be holdable. Some slimes are intended to be handled quickly and/or played with on a surface.
Try following the below tips:
o Lotion: Apply a thin layer of lotion to your hands and let fully absorb. If your hands are really dry, do this twice.
o Activator: Put a little bit of the activator solution on your hands and rub it around until your hands are coated (in between your fingers, too).
o Refrigerate: Put the slime in your refrigerator for half an hour or until it firms up enough to handle.
DO NOT EAT SLIME
DO NOT PUT BORAX POWDER DIRECTLY INTO SLIME OR IT WILL BE RUINED
*Slime has a limited life span, and it is normal for slime to shrink or deflate over time*
